Olive-Cedar-Beech-trees

Trees from the first game. From left to right: olive, cedar, and beech.

Oak-Birch-OakA-trees

From left to right: oak, birch, and another color of oak.

Cypress-trees-and-Hedges

Two variations of hedge and cypress (or maybe "copse").

Conifer-Pine-ConiferA-trees-and-Bushes

From left to right: conifer, pine, another color of conifer, and the three bushes.

Palm-trees

The four variations of palm.

Trees can appear as individual objects or as part of a forest. They are a source of wood, can be sacrificed, and can be found on all lands of Black & White and Black & White 2.

The growth rate of trees is affected by the soil they are planted on, and by the tree itself (i.e. palm trees grow faster on sand).

Planting a tree far from villages will generate a small green cloud of dust at the stem, meaning the tree will spawn saplings if watered there and randomly over time. Planting it close to buildings will result in a cloud of drab colored dust, meaning the tree may grow if watered until mature, but will not spawn saplings.

The normal water miracle will grow immature trees, or spawn saplings from mature ones. The increased water miracle will only grow any tree, but can keep growing even mature ones or those near buildings.

Trivia[]

  • The cypress and copse variations look the same but have different descriptions when pressing F1 on them.
  • Variations of a type have the same base wood or sacrifice value; including all four variations of palm.
  • The actual amount of wood depends on the size of the tree, these values are for the default mature size; sacrifice value might work the same.
  • Some real trees can be obtained from a miracle forest (see that page).
  • Pulling a tree from a natural forest will always produce a blue conifer but may spawn a pine sapling at the edge of the forest.
  • Some spawned saplings don’t automatically grow; these usually can be forced to grow with either water miracle or by planting them in a miracle forest.
  • But some of these saplings skip the growth phase and a normal water miracle will spawn more saplings instead of growing them.
  • Trees near buildings that won’t spawn saplings from the player's water miracles may still spawn non-growing saplings if a creature waters them; these saplings might grow from either water miracle or if replanted away from buildings.
  • Trees put through a vortex will lose their roots before they can be planted.
  • The tree puzzle on Land 3 is the only way to get an oak on that land.
  • When watering trees a sapling can only spawn every approximately four seconds. The player's water miracle lasts long enough to spawn two, but the creature's only lasts long enough for one.
  • By tapping the water miracle on a mature tree, then waiting four seconds, and repeating, the player can get dozens of saplings from a single water miracle at the cost of their time (though Alt+2 does shorten the time, causing saplings to spawn every two seconds or so).
  • Trees always grow from an increased water miracle, but the rate of growth gets slower as they get bigger.
