Leashes

Black and White's leashes.

Leashes are an element of Black & White and its sequel. Their purpose is to give the player direct control of the creature when training it, such as having it pick up objects or going to an specific place.

Black & White[]

In the first game, there are three different leashes, the Leash of Learning, the Leash of Aggression and the Leash of Compassion.

Leash of Learning[]

This rope leash is used to give general orders to the creature (such as move it around) and to teach him whatever the player wants, such as throwing rocks, helping villagers, etc. The creature tends to focus more on what the player is doing and learns miracles faster while on this leash.

Leash of Aggression[]

This leash is shaped like a spiked black collar and is used to make a creature aggressive toward anything it interacts.

It is a good leash if the player wants an evil creature, and is having trouble teaching it to destroy/kill things. Obviously, it is best if used on enemy villages. This leash only forces the creature to be evil. It won't change its beliefs. The creature must be taught to be evil by being punished/rewarded accordingly

Leash of Compassion[]

This rainbow colored leash makes any creature behave nicely, no matter how evil it is. This leash is good on any village: it makes the creature help your own villagers or impress enemy ones. This leash only forces the creature to be good. It won't change its beliefs. The creature must be taught to be good by being punished/rewarded accordingly

Leash mode controls[]

  • right-click:
    • if on the ground and not holding anything - go there.
    • if on an object and not holding anything - go there and pick up the item (if it's too big for them they may try to poop against it or rest near it).
    • if on the ground and holding anything:
      • with the aggression leash - throw the object there, they may move towards there to get in range, right-click again after they've reacted (a very slow double-click) to make them throw immediately.
      • with either other leash - go there and put down the object, right-click again after they've reacted (a very slow double-click) to make them put down the object immediately where they currently are.
    • if on an object and already holding anything, go there (after which they'll just toss the held object over their shoulder).
  • double right-click:
    • if on the ground and not holding anything - go there (the game says it makes them run but I can't see a difference from single right-click).
    • if on an object - leash the creature to that object.
  • snap - With the leash attached to something, you can "snap" the leash somewhere by grabbing the middle of the leash with a right-click and then releasing it:
    • if on the ground and not holding anything - go there and stay that distance away from the leashed object.
    • anywhere while holding anything:
      • with the aggression leash - throw the held object at that place or object.
      • with either other leash - put the held object there, even on another object; snap the leash there again to make them put it down immediately where they currently are.
  • gestures:
    • shake (repeatedly move hand side-to-side) - remove the leash from the creature.
    • square spiral - put the leash on the creature, can be followed by the following to change leash:
      • vertical shake (repeatedly move hand up and down) - switch to the leash of aggression.
      • ♡ (heart) - switch to the leash of compassion.
      • (backwards 3) - switch to the leash of learning.

Black & White 2[]

To be continued.
