Animals

A large group of animals.

Animals are living beings that inhabit in the world of Eden, along with villagers and creatures.

Some can be found in all lands and usually serve as food for the creature as well as the villagers (livestock). They can also be sacrificed in a worship site for prayer power.

Some animal types can prey on other types, or villagers, killing and eating them.

Groups of animals can be found when they glow from a healing miracle boosted by the Japanese wonder. The player can pause with P during the glow to look around (though there is a limit to how far away the rainbow glow that can be seen from afar appears). One could move their creature somewhere, heal them, and pause during the glow to look around.

Animal Farming[]

Animals can be raised for food or sacrifice. Grouping them in a herd close to water might make them grow and multiply, generating a larger herd. Feeding them with grain appears to speed up multiplying; drop food near them and they may move towards it, after which the pile shrinks.

Unfortunately, neither the player nor creature can make disciple shepherds, but villagers from nearby might take on the job themselves.

It is important to not let nearby villagers get too hungry or they may slaughter animals faster than they can reproduce. Also, the creature may throw animals into the store to meet their desire (or into his own mouth).

Animals occasionally wander off and tend to gather on certain beaches, for example the beach below the Hermit's hut on Land 1, behind Lethys's temple on Land 3, or multiple places on Land 5. This might be related to them being scared; either by flying objects, being harassed by creatures, and maybe predation by other animals.

Animals moved by the player are removed from their current group, creating a new group if placed alone, or added to an existing group if placed near another animal.

Animals moved by the creature are not removed from their current group, instead the group is moved to where the creature put the animal, and the other animals in that group will (slowly) move there on their own.

Groups can consist of different types of animal; a pig placed by the player with some cows will stay with those cows. Another example is the sheep in the pig pen on Land 1, it is part of a group with the pigs; if the creature moves that sheep – for example to the Sheepherder's pen – the pigs will follow.

Various flying animals can also be found in Eden: crows, doves, swallows, pigeons, seagulls, and bats. They can rarely be hit by flying objects, and very rarely have a leash attached to them; but they do not glow from a boosted heal miracle, and the hand ignores them, so they cannot otherwise be interacted with.

Trivia[]

  • The game files also list leopard, goat, zebra, and vulture animals, but none of the lands include them.
  • Leopards are usable, but trying to use goats, zebras, or vultures will crash the game.
  • The size of an animal is based on their age; smaller, younger animals might not provide as much food or sacrifice value.
  • All animals have the attributes GrownUpAge of 13 and OldAge of 45.
  • Although turtles have a food value of 50, they also have a DETAIL_FOOD_TYPE of FOOD_NONE, so don't actually provide any food.
  • Turtles, predators, and birds cannot be shepherded by villagers.
  • Predators sleep when not hunting.
  • Wolves often sleep under natural forests, though not always, and may continue to go there to sleep even after the forest has been completely harvested.
  • Wandering animals head towards zero on the X coordinate (which is to the right of the sun), until stopped by water, then head towards zero on the Y (left of the sun), until again stopped by water, based on where they can be found. Thus they end up on the sun-ward edge of peninsulas that stick out into the water to the right of the sun. (The sun rises and sets in the same place and never rises very far, thus is always in that same place.)
